Eco Schools
"Eco Schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource and recognised award scheme.

We are now one of over 2,500 schools registered with the Eco Schools programme in Scotland, and over 10% of these schools have attained the highest award level - the Green Flag."

Eco-schools Committee (written by the committee themselves)
Dounby School put together an Eco Schools committee. They interviewed pupils which were interested in being on the committtee. The lucky ones chosen were Kerry Stanger, Laura Wilson, Aidan Morrison, Charys Harvey, Alasdair Flett, Helen Flett and Kelsey Harvey.

On Wednesday 28th March 2007 the Eco Committe arranged for an Open Day to be held. The stalls were Active Schools which was the best all together, Fly Tipping, Wind Energy and Wave Power.

We did evaluation sheets to find out who the pupils thought was the best.

In the future we hope to get a Green Flag Award. To get the Green Flag Award we need to be environmentally friendly like arranging a beach clean and picking up litter.

Open Day
Our Eco Schools committee must be praised for organising a highly successful open day on Wednesday the 28th March. There were several participants from outside the school which included Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB, Keep Orkney Warm, Active Schools, Orkney Zero Waste and Orkney Sustainable Energy.
