Health and Well-Being

Health Promoting Schools Status

Dounby School has been signed up to achieving Health Promoting Schools Status. The Scottish Government wants every school to achieve this standard. The aims of the programme are that
the health promoting school:
promotes the mental, emotional, social and physical health and wellbeing of all children and young people;
• works with partners to identify and meet the health needs of the whole school and its wider community.

The school has already made some steps along the way to achieving the Health Promoting
Schools standard. We are making very good progress towards providing high quality physical
education opportunities for children; our school kitchen and tuck shop both serve healthy food
that meet the standard; Joan Tate has recently been employed as our new tooth brushing supervisor to help children look after their teeth.

Head Lice

Head lice are continuing to be a problem. Please check your child’s hair every week using the wet combing method and then treat their hair if you find head lice. If head lice are found you do need to check everyone else in your family as well.

Advice on treatment of head lice can be found at:
www.healthscotland.com

Advice can also be obtained from the doctor’s surgery, the school nurse, pharmacists and we can also give advice in school. We will print the advice leaflet for you if that would be helpful.
